Use toys rather than hands during play, and introduce gentle handling in short sessions. Reward calm participation and stop if your kitten shows discomfort. Ask your veterinarian about handling that will help prepare for examinations and nail trims.
If your cat is already touchy about being touched in certain places just go slow and gentle. Touch one paw for one second and then add more time after a few days. Give them a treat or play with a favorite toy after. Training a cat to get used to new behaviors may take a few months.
