Just some musings on kittens. Cats are in a kitten mindset until about 18 months maybe even 3 years. More active, more playful (less cuddly…read older cats are more cuddly).
It’s important to teach your kitten things like not biting too hard (bite inhibition) and to let you touch them anywhere. This will allow for better vet and grooming care. A vet can give a much better exam if your cat allows them to touch them everywhere without trying to bite or getting worked up.
If your cat is already touchy about being touched in certain places just go slow and gentle. Touch one paw for one second and then add more time after a few days. Give them a treat or play with a favorite toy after. Training a cat to get used to new behaviors may take a few months.
Want to help your kitten become familiar with new people and surroundings? Bring them to The Feline Hotel for cat and kitten socialization visits, with time to explore and settle in at their own pace. Daycare is $30 per cat, per day, and overnight daycare in the Group Room is $39 with pickup by 10 a.m. the following morning or another day charged. Contact us to discuss your kitten’s first visit; staff must approve the required veterinary records before arrival. See weekday hours and the first-day evaluation offer.
